Recently had Thompson Renewables retro fit a GivEnergy 9.5KWh battery to my system which was installed 12months ago. Paul re-installed & rewired the inverter to a much higher standard. Cannot recommend too highly. Fantastic, reliable, trustworthy & pleasant to boot. Gwyn Hughes. Abergele

We wanted to install solar panels and a battery but were unsure about where to get genuine advice and help. We didn't fancy using one of the large companies who seem to just wack the panels on, take your money and disappear, so after receiving a personal recommendation from a friend we decided on Thompson Renewables. Paul Thompson listened to our requirements and helped us to select the correct panels, battery and inverter. He explained the fitting process, the equipment and what output etc that we could expect from our investment. He promptly provided a quote and we decided to go ahead with 14 panels and a 10kw battery. Paul turned up on time on the arranged date (unusual these days!) to install our system and we were very impressed with his absolute attention to detail in ensuring that all our panels were perfectly aligned on our uneven roof. The remainder of the installation of the inverter, battery and all associated wiring was done in a very professional manner resulting in a neat appearance which enhanced our property. The benefits of dealing with a smaller local company then became evident as Paul patiently took us through the operation of the system, explaining how it all worked and offered further help should we need it in the future. Needless to say our system has been fantastic, providing pretty much all the electricity we need from April to October, and contributing greatly during the darker winter months. Paul has been available when I've needed questions answered and has recently helped me modify my system controls to adapt to using an Economy 7 tariff in winter. In summary, I have found Paul Thompson to be a knowledgeable, conscientious, professional tradesman who does what he has promised, on time and on budget. A rare find these days. I would highly recommended him, if you're thinking of installing a solar system.

I had solar panels and battery installed by Paul and his team in the summer of 2024 - everything was perfect. Last month BT changed my broadband to EE and a new hub was installed; I could then not access my app to the inverter and peruse the solar system. After watching a video how to change the details, I tried and tried but gave up as it was not that simple. I called Paul from Thompson Renewables in Prestatyn and he and his guys called yesterday and it was sorted within minutes. Thanks Paul for the really efficient service.

I have always been sceptical about online reviews: 1. Is the author a friend or relative of the person/service they are reviewing? 2. Do they have an axe to grind because they feel that they did not get what they where expecting? 2. Are the author’s standards/values similar to mine? With this in mind, I would like to state that I had not met Paul Thompson before he quoted to fit solar panels to my house. I am in my early sixties, have just retired from running my own successful, customer based business, and consequently have the time to devote to fully researching options available for any work to be undertaken on my home. Having received two other quotes I decided to use Thompson Renewables, mainly because their quote had a cost break down of the equipment that was to be used. I naturally checked the price that I could source it for, and Thompson Renewables were cheaper; it was pleasing to know Paul was passing on his bulk discount to the customer. The workforce from Thompson Renewables were unfailingly punctual and reliable, hard-working and courteous, clean and tidy, and crucially finished on schedule. During the short time that they worked at my house they put up with me taking an annoyingly active interest in what they were doing (the joy of being retired and having little else to do) and responded to all my queries with patience and comprehensive answers. This service continued long after the initial installation, as I struggled to effectively manage the new system, and Paul was an absolute star, always responding to my questions and taking the time to explain exactly what I needed to know. All in all, I can thoroughly recommend Thompson Renewables as an efficient, trustworthy and very professional firm. P. Stanford-Davis

Paul and his team have recently done some complex work refurbishing our heating system. Thanks so much Paul for your amazing work. Paul and his team were incredibly knowledgeable and professional. They were efficient, courteous, tidy and friendly. We will definately be asking Paul to do any more work we may need doing in the future. We cannot recommend him highly enough.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know you’re properly qualified and certified to install heat pumps?

We are MCS‑certified and registered with an approved consumer protection/competent person scheme, which is essential for quality assurance and to access grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

Can you tell me if a heat pump is actually suitable for my home?

We carry out a detailed home assessment, including property type, insulation levels, existing heating system and available outdoor space, to confirm whether a heat pump is a good fit.

What type and size of heat pump will you recommend for my property, and why?

We design the system using a heat‑loss calculation for your home, then match the correct kW size and model (for example, air‑source vs ground‑source) so it runs efficiently and reliably.

What will the full installation cost be, and what’s included in your quote?

Our fixed quote clearly lists the heat pump, cylinder, controls, labour, scaffolding (if needed), electrical work and any radiator or pipework upgrades, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Can you help me access government grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Yes, as an MCS installer we can confirm your eligibility, apply for the BUS grant (worth up to £7,500) on your behalf and deduct it directly from your quote.

How much disruption should I expect during installation, and how long does it take?

A typical air‑source heat pump installation takes around 2–5 days, and we’ll agree locations for the indoor and outdoor units, manage any planning considerations and keep you informed each day.

Will I need to replace my radiators or upgrade anything else in my home?

After the heat‑loss survey, we’ll advise if any radiators, pipework, electrics or hot‑water cylinder need upgrading so the system can run efficiently at lower flow temperatures.

How noisy is the outdoor unit and where will it be installed?

Modern heat pumps are designed to be quiet and must meet UK noise regulations; we’ll position the unit to minimise any impact on you and your neighbours and comply with local planning rules.

What warranties, servicing and aftercare do you provide?

You’ll get manufacturer warranties on the heat pump plus our workmanship guarantee, and we offer ongoing servicing and support to keep your system performing at its best.

What running costs and savings can I realistically expect compared to my current boiler?

We’ll estimate your likely annual running costs and potential savings based on your current fuel type, insulation level and tariffs, using real‑world performance data rather than lab figures.
