I've had the electrician out to rewire my shower after a lovely lad put new plastics on wall. They were both lovely lads. The electrician explained everything to me and cleaned up after himself. The two plumbers came to refit radiator and finish fittings off. They too were great. Very happy with todays work

Still waiting to be rehoused 2 years on, despite been in band 2 which is supposed be deemed “very urgent”. They advertise bungalows for you to bid on but they are still listed as awaiting allocation several weeks after the list has closed. Why advertise properties if you aren’t even going to offer them to people? They have lots of properties across the district just sitting empty while there are people with medical needs having to wait years to get a bungalow. One bungalow in particular in Hoyland Common has been advertised twice in the last few months and it’s not even fit for habitation, they are just trying to make it appear that they have plenty of properties that are ready for tenants but they’re not. I’m absolutely sick of waiting. I haven’t had access to proper bathing facilities for 2 years now, I’ve applied for dozens of bungalows and I haven’t had a single offer. How is band 2 very urgent when you are making people wait years?

Despite having a clear local connection to Barnsley (caring for a friend and receiving Carer’s Allowance) my housing application was denied twice by Berneslai Homes... Once initially, and again after I appealed. The first rejection came with minimal explanation, and the staff member I spoke to had a real attitude, which made the situation feel even more dismissive and unprofessional. I then submitted an appeal with all the required documentation, including evidence of my Carer’s Allowance, to show I met their local connection criteria. Despite this, they rejected me a second time. It’s difficult not to question whether this process was handled fairly. When someone actively caring for a vulnerable person is denied housing support (Despite ticking the boxes for eligibility) it starts to feel not just unfair, but discriminatory. This whole experience has left me feeling like I don’t matter...as though the vital role I play as a carer isn’t valued or even acknowledged. It’s hard not to feel dehumanised by the way I’ve been treated. It’s not just frustrating, it’s emotionally damaging and being met with this level of disregard adds a huge amount of stress and pain. To anyone considering applying for housing with Berneslai Homes...I genuinely wouldn’t recommend it. The process was cold, disheartening, and made me feel less than human. People deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, especially when reaching out for help. Sadly, I don't feel I received either.

Not fit for purpose. Untrained staff giving out incorrect advice causing massive delays. I have been waiting to get rehoused since April 2023, it took them 4 months just to process my application and get me on the register, for a further 6 weeks after that I was given false advice about what I needed to do to get rehoused on medical grounds and then they took 3 and a half months after that to do a medical assessment, this made my total wait time 9 months before I was even aloud to apply for a bungalow in January 2024. Also numerous complaints unanswered, it wasn’t until I wrote to my local MPs office that I got a reply and was offered a measly £100 compensation for my trouble. And now I’m told I still have at least another 5 months to wait for a suitable property in my area. This organisation is a joke.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know you’re properly qualified and certified to install heat pumps?

We are MCS‑certified and registered with an approved consumer protection/competent person scheme, which is essential for quality assurance and to access grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

Can you tell me if a heat pump is actually suitable for my home?

We carry out a detailed home assessment, including property type, insulation levels, existing heating system and available outdoor space, to confirm whether a heat pump is a good fit.

What type and size of heat pump will you recommend for my property, and why?

We design the system using a heat‑loss calculation for your home, then match the correct kW size and model (for example, air‑source vs ground‑source) so it runs efficiently and reliably.

What will the full installation cost be, and what’s included in your quote?

Our fixed quote clearly lists the heat pump, cylinder, controls, labour, scaffolding (if needed), electrical work and any radiator or pipework upgrades, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Can you help me access government grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Yes, as an MCS installer we can confirm your eligibility, apply for the BUS grant (worth up to £7,500) on your behalf and deduct it directly from your quote.

How much disruption should I expect during installation, and how long does it take?

A typical air‑source heat pump installation takes around 2–5 days, and we’ll agree locations for the indoor and outdoor units, manage any planning considerations and keep you informed each day.

Will I need to replace my radiators or upgrade anything else in my home?

After the heat‑loss survey, we’ll advise if any radiators, pipework, electrics or hot‑water cylinder need upgrading so the system can run efficiently at lower flow temperatures.

How noisy is the outdoor unit and where will it be installed?

Modern heat pumps are designed to be quiet and must meet UK noise regulations; we’ll position the unit to minimise any impact on you and your neighbours and comply with local planning rules.

What warranties, servicing and aftercare do you provide?

You’ll get manufacturer warranties on the heat pump plus our workmanship guarantee, and we offer ongoing servicing and support to keep your system performing at its best.

What running costs and savings can I realistically expect compared to my current boiler?

We’ll estimate your likely annual running costs and potential savings based on your current fuel type, insulation level and tariffs, using real‑world performance data rather than lab figures.
