I recently had a octopus cosy heat pump installed by smart energy homes and couldn’t be happier. They carried out a free survey within days of my enquiry and had me booked in for installation within just two weeks. Really fast! The whole process was very smooth and the install is top notch. The price was also very reasonable after the government grant deduction. After being messed around by other local companies just trying to get me a survey, this was top-class service. Highly recommend!

We have just had a complete ECO4 retrofit - wall insulation, complete central heating installation, air source heat pump and solar panels. The whole process was about 8 weeks, the team were superb and the end result is amazing! Our house is warm and our bills should be reduced, with no more hefty oil bills! Shane and Michael did a fantastic job, especially considering we have awkward arched windows - they figured it out and the plasterwork finish is flawless. The builders , electricians, plumbers and other contractors have all been so polite and professional, nothing was too much trouble. We’re looking forward to a cosy winter!

I would be extremely cautious about using this company. They came out to assess my home and I was successful in getting the full insulation grant, which included cavity wall insulation and loft insulation. After seeing the BBC articles where out of the total 60,000 homes that got the grant, over 30,000 now have damp and mould issues, I called to enquire about their guarantees. They told me that other companies in the past have made lots of money from these schemes and then gone bust due to incorrect fitting, but they guranteed me they are not one of these and are an upstanding business registered with Trustmark (which means nothing essentially) I then did some further rsearch myself, and found that under no circumstance should a house of my construction (timber framed, very common in the UK) should it have caity wall insulation. It would rot the structural beams and essentially condemn the house. I told the inspector on his site visit when he reviewed the house initially of the construction and he said it is completely fine. I rang the company to double check this, and they reviewed it and went to speak to their experts and they came back and told me it was an error and no they should never install cavity wall insulation. Had I not rang and queried this, it would have been installed two days later. This is extremely incompetent and quite dangerous, masquerading as a high quality business but simply grabbing cash from the government and installing incorrect insulation wherever they can. They then told me as most of the grant is from the cavity wall insulation, they wouldnt even install loft insulation, and never even replied to my query. Their customer service was always excellent, but I would avoid them

Excellent work by professional installers, I was well supported and informed throughout the whole process. There has also been good follow-up.

I was contacted by a sales representative from smart Energy homes about 2 months ago. We've had 6 walls insulated, plastered and some extractor fans also installed. And had our radiators fitted back on, didn't cost a penny. I found the experience to very good, fantastic communication and any issues that arose, we're actioned failry quickly. Customer service from Meg, and recently Joe was really good. I see alot of people posting that these kind of things are scams, from my experience with this company, that statement is just nonsense. Highly recommended!

Frequently asked questions

How do I know you’re properly qualified and certified to install heat pumps?

We are MCS‑certified and registered with an approved consumer protection/competent person scheme, which is essential for quality assurance and to access grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

Can you tell me if a heat pump is actually suitable for my home?

We carry out a detailed home assessment, including property type, insulation levels, existing heating system and available outdoor space, to confirm whether a heat pump is a good fit.

What type and size of heat pump will you recommend for my property, and why?

We design the system using a heat‑loss calculation for your home, then match the correct kW size and model (for example, air‑source vs ground‑source) so it runs efficiently and reliably.

What will the full installation cost be, and what’s included in your quote?

Our fixed quote clearly lists the heat pump, cylinder, controls, labour, scaffolding (if needed), electrical work and any radiator or pipework upgrades, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Can you help me access government grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Yes, as an MCS installer we can confirm your eligibility, apply for the BUS grant (worth up to £7,500) on your behalf and deduct it directly from your quote.

How much disruption should I expect during installation, and how long does it take?

A typical air‑source heat pump installation takes around 2–5 days, and we’ll agree locations for the indoor and outdoor units, manage any planning considerations and keep you informed each day.

Will I need to replace my radiators or upgrade anything else in my home?

After the heat‑loss survey, we’ll advise if any radiators, pipework, electrics or hot‑water cylinder need upgrading so the system can run efficiently at lower flow temperatures.

How noisy is the outdoor unit and where will it be installed?

Modern heat pumps are designed to be quiet and must meet UK noise regulations; we’ll position the unit to minimise any impact on you and your neighbours and comply with local planning rules.

What warranties, servicing and aftercare do you provide?

You’ll get manufacturer warranties on the heat pump plus our workmanship guarantee, and we offer ongoing servicing and support to keep your system performing at its best.

What running costs and savings can I realistically expect compared to my current boiler?

We’ll estimate your likely annual running costs and potential savings based on your current fuel type, insulation level and tariffs, using real‑world performance data rather than lab figures.
